Alcohol and dehydration

  • Alcohol inhibits the release of anti-diuretic hormone. This leads to dehydration.

  • Mix drinks with seltzer or ice.

  • Limit darker alcoholic beverages, these are normally higher in alcohol content.

  • Hydrate between drinks. Electrolyte fortified water is better than plain water.

  • Consume foods rich in potassium, sodium, magnesium and chloride.

  • Signs of dehydration: headache, dizziness, shakiness and rapid heart beat.
